Toussaint Foundation

Foundation

Founded in 2020 by members of the historic Toussaint Shooting Club, TRWC is positioned to identify, fund and initiate projects with the greatest environmental benefit impacting 22,000 acres along the lower 13 miles of the Toussaint River. The existing marshes represent the only remnants of the once famous “Great Black Swamp”, which covered almost 1,500 square miles of Northwest Ohio (about 1 million acres). Unfortunately, the forests were cleared and the land drained for agricultural uses.

Any further loss of today’s wetlands severely jeopardizes the ability to deliver clean water to Lake Erie, let alone preserve the natural habitat so critically important to wildlife.
